Aquacise-mal

Whilst I was in Johannesburg staying at my Aunt’s, I participated in some solo water exercising. I learned the routine from my Aunt. My friend Jo, who has been living in Japan and I miss greatly, is a lifeguard and I decided to share my routine with her. I figured she would have some insightful tips to help maximize it’s potential so I made a simplified diagram. Then I thought I would share it with the world wide web.

Lucky Find

I used to live across the street from here (first house on left) for about 7 years and never uncovered these tiles until 2 months before we moved. I was so excited, there was ridiculous amounts of self-chatting going on when I came across this. Plus I was avec leg cast at the time (car accident, boring story), unearthing one of the highlights of my summer. I haven’t figured out how I’m going to use them yet but consider this part one.

Boom.

After a good six month hiatus, which included a broken foot, traveling to distant lands, and moving from the cosy ‘burbs to the city, its time to get my ‘serious’ face on. Look back for plenty more bullyshaggles!

Books

I love books. I love going to the bookstore or to a really good library. I love reading books. I like the smell of books. Design books are my favourite. Children’s books are a close second. Something about the ink and the paper and the glue and whatever other magic they put in there makes me very happy and nostalgic.

Special guest appearance by Rae.

Mumford & Sons

Went to see these guys last night, unreal concert. They have accompanied me on many a commute to and from school, especially the last and final semester. Thanks to Jon befriending one of the security guys at the concert, a lovely burly older gentleman named Dale, we were handed the Sons’ set list for the evening. On loan to me for the sake of making a super cool post with it, as well as a few shaky shots with my trusty little handheld Canon.

GDMA Grad Show: Paper & Parcel

DBA Pens

I had this video running at different times on two different pages and the lady’s voice started to mess with my mind. Makes for a good time if you’re bored. I’ve been wondering lately if such a thing as this -a ‘green’ pen- exists, and then stumbled upon this video in the midst of some blog-hopping. I love infographics, and thought these were pretty super neat. Also the logo is quite smashing. (I apologize for the poor linking job on the video, there was a lot of yelling at the computer, wasted time, and so this is the best I could do).

Icograda Design Week: NEXT WEEK

Yes and yes! Design week next week! I am getting prepared to “reshape [my] understanding of the value of design”. Watch the cool video.

Boarding Pass Makeover

So when I first began my blog I had a few requests to post something about type when I was blogging more frequently. First of all, this meant someone else other than myself was reading my blog which even now puts a big ole smile on my face. Well I’m hoping I’ll have a bit more time to keep this thing going on the regular, so I thought I’d turn the page by fulfilling these requests. And here goes…

Tyler Thompson did a real stellar job of updating the Delta Airlines boarding pass, amazing how good type can transform an image. He describes his rationale quite well if you’re interested.
